I’m doing bad at publicizing things but…

… but there is a Christmas Sing-a-long tomorrow led by yours truly! 11:00 am at the Hope Mills Library. Bring your preschoolers, and bring yourselves too because seriously who doesn’t want to sing Christmas songs?

I am also recording on the 23rd! But this may not be my last session because someone spent way too much time writing Star Wars-themed songs for children and not enough time writing harmonies for her album. So we shall see.

I should start a story time section on this blog, because that is where most of my writing is going these days.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

EP Updates

Had a great recording session with some very talented musicians! These guys really knew their stuff, and it was kind of amazing to be playing in the same room as them. ^_^ I learned a lot and am excited to go back!

One thing I learned is that you can’t record an entire EP in one session. We covered the instrumentals for 3 songs in just over 4 hours, so I’ll be returning on June 13th to record vocals for those songs.  We’ll do the second half of the album during the second half of the month, so updates will come as more recordings are scheduled!

Thank you all for your support so far! I can’t wait to share the finished product with you!

Recording Date Set!

Guys, I am SO EXCITED to announce that the (first?) recording date for my 5-song EP has been scheduled!  I begin recording with Audible Images on Monday, June 1st. This is such an exciting milestone, and I can’t believe it’s finally happening!

If anyone was thinking of donating to make this EP the best it can be, now is the time. Thank you all so much for your continued support!

Touring Studios and other Musical Adventures

As you know, I’ve been researching recording studios in the Pittsburgh area. I was kind of surprised by how many there are–it seems Pittsburgh does a lot of recording for really legit artists! For some reason I always think my city is smaller than it actually is.

Recently I found a studio that looks great online and seems like it could be a really supportive environment for beginners (like me!). I won’t give you the name yet because I’m not committing to anything, but I’ll be touring the studio tomorrow, and I have high hopes.

Since October I’ve been devoting at least 6 hours per week to a combination of song writing, learning covers, practicing, self-promotion, and performing live. For the next month or so I’m streamlining my process and devoting those six hours to nothing but practicing my five songs.  I need to be completely and utterly sick of these songs by the time I record them. ^_^

If all goes well, I hope to do most of my recording in late May/early June. I still have no idea how long production usually takes, but I’ll keep you posted as I learn more!

Threnody Teaser

25 second “Threnody” clip!

I will post the full song on here (and on my youtube channel), but not until the Pittsburgh Songwriters Circle officially releases the album on November 14th.  Check the calendar above for more info on the release date.  (Did I mention I added a calendar? I added a calendar!)

In fact, this may not be the final recorded version of this song, as I just learned of a local recording studio that has a baby grand piano.  The current version was recorded with Doug Wilkin of Wilkin Audio, who is a fantastic person to work with and who, I think, did an awesome job of making my 20-year-old keyboard not sound like a 20-year-old keyboard!

But he also suggested my album would sound better if I recorded at a studio with a real piano. I didn’t realize studios provided their own pianos. (That makes me sound kind of dumb, but I guess I never thought about it.)  So now I’m really excited to look into this, and you will hear more on it in the future!

In the meantime, look for “Threnody” on the Pittsburgh Songwriters Circle CD on November 14th! I hope you’ll stop by the release party if you are in the area!
