Final Recording is Happening!

My final recording is tentatively planned for May 29th, but definitely happening Memorial Day weekend. The harmonies for “Snowfall” are coming along nicely and the harmonies for “Icarus” are … well, they’re coming along, anyway. Definitely on track to finish in April and then have a month to practice!

You guys I am so excited!

I’m doing bad at publicizing things but…

… but there is a Christmas Sing-a-long tomorrow led by yours truly! 11:00 am at the Hope Mills Library. Bring your preschoolers, and bring yourselves too because seriously who doesn’t want to sing Christmas songs?

I am also recording on the 23rd! But this may not be my last session because someone spent way too much time writing Star Wars-themed songs for children and not enough time writing harmonies for her album. So we shall see.

I should start a story time section on this blog, because that is where most of my writing is going these days.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

More EP Stuff and Good Karma Please

Had a very nice recording session on Sunday and finished the lead vocals for 3 songs. This makes me about halfway done with my part (the recording company still has to do all their mixing/mastering). If all goes according to schedule, I’m set to finish recording on July 10th!

That’s the good news. Unfortunately the schedule is kind of at the mercy of my poor sore throat right now. I’m doing my best to kick the virus in time to record more this Monday; if not, I’ll have to postpone recording the last 2 songs.

Send some good thoughts/prayers/karma my way if you please!

EP Updates

This EP is eating my soul, but in a good (if exhausting) way. I’ve spent all of May so far typing up chords/lyrics/sheet music for the musicians and recording demos whenever I snagged a few moments home alone. For the next two weeks I’ll do nothing but write harmonies and practice, practice, practice.

As I’m sure you figured out, there will be no performance dates this month. But the pay-off will be well worth it!

January’s Project Evaluation and the EP

Piano Close-UpIt’s January, which means its time to evaluate my recording project!

The plan has shifted slightly, as plans do when life happens. I was hoping to churn out one song per month, but it turns out that songs — like cats — don’t come when they’re called. However, they do come eventually. Right now I have five complete songs, so that’s where I’ll start.

Instead of a 10-song album, then, I’m going to record a 5-song EP (which is like an album but with fewer songs on it). The titles of these 5 songs are:

“Threnody”
“Icarus”
“Snowfall (December Moon)”
“Fractals”
“Moonflower Lullaby”

I know 5 songs sounds less impressive than 10, but I’m actually really excited for what this means! Instead of focusing on churning out a new song each month, now I can spend the rest of the year learning the recording process and giving each individual song the attention it needs.  It’s going to be a big learning experience for me, which will (hopefully) end with an enjoyable EP for you!

A good plan for a new year. 🙂

Dream a Little Dream of Me

The Youtube video is up for my surprise cover: “Dream a Little Dream of Me!”

It wasn’t really a surprise, since I got impatient and uploaded the music to SoundCloud a few days ago (oops). I love the audio, but I’m kind of meh about the video. The way my room is arranged has me singing away from the light and the camera.  But eh, I’ll figure it out. With luck I’ll soon be making enough $ to move out of my parents’ house, so I’ll get my own apartment and set up a music space there.

In case you were wondering what happened to the other song, I didn’t get to finish it. But I have a few days off for Christmas so hopefully one of them will be a recording day!
